The Ongoing Battle Between Mac And PC
One of the most common questions people ask in relation to buying home computers in today’s markets is; should I purchase a Mac or a PC? Currently, it seems that Macs are becoming more and more flexible. Within the last few years, Mac has changed their proprietary design to become more main-stream. This makes them more capable of running more programs than they were in the past. Here are some of the newer features of Macs that make them more competitive with Windows:
-
The old Macs could only run Mac operating systems. Now that Mac has switched to using Intel processors, you can actually run a Microsoft operating system on them. Does your business require a special program that will only run on Windows? Not a problem, you can run Windows and Mac OSX on your Mac Laptop.
-
Macs are less susceptible to viruses and malware. While this may change over time, it is quite obvious that there are more PCs on the market than Macs. Because of the higher number of PCs, a person who creates a virus will more likely create one for a PC. Since viruses are designed to spread from computer to computer, their viruses will have a greater effect if aimed at PCs.
-
Macs’ operating system design is based on a very reliable operating system called UNIX. The UNIX operating system design has many advantages over a windows operating system. Unix is known to be a modular design which means if something breaks, your whole computer will not fail to run.
-
One possible disadvantage to Macs is their pricing. Currently you can pick up a new Dell Laptop for only $500 CAD compared to a Mac Laptop which is going to cost at least $1149 CAD. Consider paying more for a laptop if you want it to last longer. Generally the more you pay, the faster the computer will be and therefore the longer it will last. A $500 laptop isn’t going to last very long in terms of speed and performance.
